jack dixon, a london-based electronic artist draws influences from wolfgang voigt, mutant disco, autechre and tim hecker. quite an array of jumping off points and ones which are clearly evident throughout his intricate productions. his productions sound as much at home on a heaving, sweat-soaked, educated dance floor as they do on headphones in the sleepy urban half-light on the night bus home. from his earliest releases on brownswood, take, and silverback, jack has found love and support from amongst others mary anne hobbs, joy orbison, will saul, sinden and eats everything.

fully koded chicagoians traxx and beau wanzer team up for another mutant beat dance release. together they have produced arguably the best 80s chicago house record not made in the 80s. the mutants call it jakbeat, inspired by the early days of house music. tip!!! let me go is as intense and rhythmically inclined as they come. naughty woods sparse vocals cry desperation, almost nearing insanity, which makes up for a pressure cooker like warehouse anthem. rottonfunk is another intense work out which has a killer groove and makes us wander off to the promised land (wherever that is). its delightful to hear that chicago house music this good still gets made. surely when it was released way back when, it would fetch top dollars on the interweb. authentic stuff!

many prominent figures throughout history have proclaimed that you can get by with a little help from your friends now whilst this is a lovely romantic notion and does, we suppose have some (albeit very small) grounding in reality you need a bit more if you want to progress through life as opposed to simply jog in. zoo look are a good example of this, whilst sam, alex and craig have been friends for quite some time, forging their completely plutonic relationship through djing together, their latest release, number 11 on join the dots is forged from more than simply the burning fires of friendship, its born out of a love of all things deep as well as house music based. they may be mates but you can also get along very well if you have bags of talent too.

simon bakers debut album traces saw the london based producer record a superb, honest reflection of his influences and took his deep house sound into a long playing format that was critically acclaimed across the board. let me in was one of two tracks that featured vocals from debukas that were highlights of the album, and it returns in original album version and with an excellent remix from lee curtiss. lee curtiss is currently riding high after great releases on spectral sound and get physical, an excellent cd compilation for watergate and as part of the visionquest collective. his version is a remix in the truest form, he treats the original with respect, but twists and turns it very much into his own track, perfectly fine tuned for club sets and soundsystems. this combined with the awesome original provides another essential simon baker and 2020vision collaboration

the >drop the mask of self protection< remix of dominik eulberg is a bit of an adventure! unlike his >diorama< album and maybe because of its elaborate musical challenge, he has taken a time-out to create a serious club format in the true eulberg style witnessed on trapez in the past. so what does that really mean for this track? well this remix kicks off a bit of an relaxed percussive and deep house groove and undergoes in its course quite an explosive transformation! with a lot of skill and finesse mr eulberg pulls the strings with accuracy and makes the transfer of what unfolds to be a heavy big pounding techno rocker! thumbs up this is superb and eulberg at his best.

this 4-track ep is the first official release from new jerseys mikeq, one of the unquestioned leaders of the current vogue-house scene, and follows in the wake of a slew of self-released tunes he has dropped over the past few years. let it all out is also the second record on kingdoms fade to mind imprint, which has already received mountains of praise despite its short discography. largely built upon raw, upfront drum sounds, recycled snippets of hip-hop and r&b, and, most importantly, the ever-present >ha< (itself a repurposed masters at work sample), vogue house seemingly offered the sort of sound that tastemaking and blog-reading djs would snap up with aplomb. hell, even diplo championed the ballroom scene. yet, for whatever reason, the expected vogue-house explosion hasnt really happened. while a handful of non-ballroom producers and djs (most coming from the world of bass music) have experimented with the genre, the music essentially continues to hum along in the underground.

>let life dance thru you< reveals itself as a safari of live played percussion, instruments and sounds. the duo create here a biotope of sounds that interact with each other... like a live band would do… at times almost arabesque sounding this track is full of mysterious soundscapes... jazzy played instruments... flutes running havoc... it could as well be: a spiritual voodoo session from the 70ies!
the whole sound selection if it would be described in colors, would be dark brown, black... with bits of gold. no shiny lights or illuminated plains. almost 11.00 minutes long this track is a real journey and certainly for the people who know rather than feeding djs.

numbernin6 is no new comer to the dubstep scene, but this is his first record for london label smokin sessions. the recordings are blissful and floaty, as you would expect from smokin sessions and really shows off what numnernin6 can do when he goes deep. the whole ep is masterfully produced and you can really hear these tracks have been given a lot of attention. i cant pick a favourite, but all 3 are a great listen. sit back, relax and spark it up rude eye!

croatians finest purveyor of disco and boogie returns with a delish four track ep on yam whos ism imprint. the four tracks have all the delicious trappings of rudman, dramatic strings, ample helpings of cowbell and vintage synth stabs. the a-side consists of the sleazy squelch of “crazy with you” in both original and remixed by yam who form, with the latter, more uptempo version just shading it. the flipside consists of the sultry boogie bap of “let this dream be real , with the original bringing to mind a glacially paced version of rockers revenge classic “walking on sunshine , while the disco dirtbox tweak bumps and grinds in all the right places - totally primed for club play!

juan macleans new side project, peach melba! the constant citation of >chicago house and detroit techno< as influences has very nearly reduced both to empty signifiers. such vague and vacuous overuse ignores the distinct aesthetic and conceptual ideals of the actual music. that tendency to play fast and loose with the defining traits of late 80s and early 90 house and techno is one juan maclean has studiously avoided in his new side project, peach melba. built on tracks he felt were too >house-y< to be included amongst the more song-oriented singles on a proper the juan maclean release, peach melba is macleans vehicle for releasing a stream of upcoming dj friendly 12 inchs. the projects output is decidedly faithful to the blueprint of those aforementioned early productions, emphasizing rolling melodies and big vocal hooks.

achtung, warning, balushi is out with two new techno bombs for the summer. on the a side let me be myself is a deep aquatic adventure with a huge basline chugging along. there are some deep dark underwater effects and vocal snippets which develop into a deep stabby groove that hypnotizes anyone listening to the track. there is then a break with a beautiful vocal derived from the snippets that refreshes the listener and takes them into another dimension before bringing them back into the heavy hipnotic groove. on the aa side we have the path one hell of a tecno crossover designed to electrify and rock summer crowds all globally...with a funky meaty bassline that rolls on and perfectly complements both rasta vocals and crazy electronic synths and squelches the path is a fat groove to look out for on the hottest dancefloors...

it seems that dapayk used to listen to a lot of hip-hop when he was younger. his latest ep for still vor talent >let go< has got these influences written all over it. the title track starts out with a male vocal and some sounds that sound a little like scratching before things then quickly head into the direction of the club. the vocal by singer camara could not be more reminiscent of 80s house music and this track has got all the soul and groove of this era. beneath the delicate vocal and sound patterns lies a wonderfully simply staccato house groove that is sure to get everyone shuffling. on the flip things get a little more techy with >nneka<, a deeper and more melodic tech house glider that gently takes the listener towards a harmonic state of mind. beautifully arpeggiated pads, a warm soulful groove and some reverbed vocals make this one. last up is the sample-based tech-house stomper >upyo< featuring production partner jon hester. this is loop heaven: a pushy beat loop with many snares, reverse samples and an unexpected saxophone melody make this one the perfect changeover track from warm-up to peak-time. this ep shows dapayks skills to combine many musical influences into his unique still of tech-house music
